April 2006 CARE donates second washing machine for Poiana Mare more details and hopefully some pictures will be added shortly.
The second Washing Machine for the New laundry unit facilities.
This should comprise washing machine (s) 25 kg capacity, dryers(s) and ironing capability. This is not for cosmetic or comfort for patients but essential to control tegumantry parasitosis (skin parasites)
Improvements to these facilities would without doubt improve the quality of life for both patients and staff
Supporting Information
1, There are currently two washing machine dating back to the early sixties and only one functions.
2, Both of the two dryers are out of action.
As part of the new Social Welfare programme patients can now have access to magazines, music, newspapers and televisions/videos. These items will be selected by professional Psychiatrists and Psychologists to ensure that the patients are protected from harmful material and are only given encouraging and helpful material. There is also a need for clothes/uniforms for both summer and winter time. All these items need to be resourced in Romania and are needed urgently.
This project is now complete
Blankets
Many thanks to those who support the recent purchase(September 2004) of 500 blankets for the patience at Poiana Mare
New laundry unit facilities.
Current situation
Many thanks to all who made donations to the £6000, needed for the laundry facility in December 2003 CARE had the new industrial washing machine, delivered and installed, this project is now complete.
Noel has contact various suppliers and Primus have advised they have an agent in Romania who will do a survey of the site to establish the needs at Poina Marie and also liaise with the Health Authority.
Romania is applying for EU membership and therefore funding projects may be available to help. Malcolm Harbour (MEP) suggested P.H.A.R.E. which specifically funds hospital laundries and will provide 90% of the cost, leaving us to find about £6,000. This will include re-building the laundry premises, providing equipment, training, air fairs to travel out to the hospital, etc.
