Church Support Visit 2005

C.A.R.E. has been working in Romania, particularly Craiova and Dolj regions since Spring 1990.  We have been involved in all sorts of activities, including: Poiana Mare Psychiatric Hospital; Craiova    Childrens Home (Leagan de Copii); building business contacts and arranging professional exchanges; Evangelistic Mission in conjunction with Baptist Churches in Craiova, Calafat and Filiasi.

Following C.A.R.E.'s Church Support Visit in October 2003, the Pastors of Craiova, Calafat and Filiasi Churches have asked for a big Support Visit at Easter 2005.  This visit should aim at including: sharing love for Jesus at this Christian festival time; mutual support in healing ministry through the power of the Holy Spirit; encouragement and engagement with children/youth in the communities; evangelism in surrounding villages and towns.

Easter Sunday in Romania is 1st May 2005 and the visit will embrace the preceding Holy Week.  Travel dates are provisionally 22nd/23rd April, returning 2nd/3rd May 2005, depending on flight availabilities and team constraints.

We are looking to build a team embracing skills such as: willingness to speak out and witness for Christ; music; preaching; prayer support teams (here and in Romania); communication with children; healing ministry; organisation.

If you would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact us.

Visit to Worcestershire

On Sunday 17th October 2004 C.A.R.E. were invited to the Parishes of Upton Warren, Stoke Prior and Wychbold by the Rector, Roger Antell, to talk about their work.  There was a service at each of the three Churches.  Alf Hughes spoke at Upton Warren.  This is a small Church with a small but friendly congregation.  Noel Phillips spoke at the Family Service at Wychbold, with Jenny Phillips and Wlod Holweger joining the music group, doubling its size!  In the evening the whole group went to Stoke Prior for Evensong, with Maurice Smith giving the talk.  The feedback from the visit was very positive in that the talks were good and came from the heart.  The Rector, Roger Antell, was at all three services and said it was wonderful to hear three totally different sermons on the same subject on the same day.

As a result of this visit one person would like to join the visit to Romania in 2005, with another three people being very interested.  Several   people would like to be kept updated on C.A.R.E.'s progress, particularly as many people thought that support was no longer needed in Romania.

The team from C.A.R.E. found it an interesting and helpful day, with God guiding them, allowing C.A.R.E.'s message to be passed on to others.

AGM Highlights 17th May 2002
Action Committee Chairman's Report. The Chairman reported that during the  year the committee had met ten times. Among the highlights of the year was the help we were able to give towards the setting up of a Romanian Colposcopy Society; the money raised for the care of Nina and that received from the World Church Gift Day; the setting up and stocking of the shop at Calafat; the provision of money to purchase land for a Church at Filiash; support toward the salaries of the Pastors; financial help to enable eight  young people from the Church to work with Tear Fund in Romania; and two magnificent concerts  put on by the AD concert Band supported by the Knowle singers, both of  which raised a lot of money for CARE. The Chairman noted that during the year 4 members had resigned, leaving only 8 to do the work. He appealed for those interested in the work of CARE to sign up as members so that they could take an active part in future meetings.
Paul expressed his thanks to all who helped with the Pastors' visit during which they were able to meet with Trevor Harris of the Slavic Gospel Association which funds the training of Pastor's in Church planting.
Romanian Colposcopy Society Dr Sabah Baghdadi (click here for full information) explained that many women were dying of cervical cancer because of the lack of a screening programme. Financial help could be forthcoming from the European Colposcopy Federation, but in order to receive this help it was first necessary to form a Romanian Colposcopy Society.  Through five regional conferences of gynaecologists in Romania, a Romanian Society was formed, and at a conference in Rhodes this Society was apple to apply to the European Colposcopy Federation for recognition. This was granted. Care was asked to provide funds to enable two Romanian gynaecologists to attend this conference as representatives of the Romanian Society. Care paid for two thirds of the cost, and the remained was covered through the kindness of others. CARE has received a letter of thanks from the Romanian Society.

Fund Raising  Angela recorded her thanks to all who responded with enthusiasm to the appeal for NINA. This enabled Pastor Teofil to obtain the drugs Nina needed, and ease her last days. She was planning a theme evening for the autumn. We shall be selling Christmas cards again this year, and a trading company is being set up to enable us to do so.

Project Manager's Report.  Maurice reported that together with Sabah and Wlod he had visited Romania on a fact finding mission. The aim was to determine what the Romanians themselves saw to be their needs. They returned with some 25 ideas to assess, prioritise according to need and feasibility, and put into a five year plan. Members of the committee, together with the Trustees, were presented with the list of proposed projects and asked to rate them according to importance and feasibility. Their grading had now been correlated, and the result will be discussed at the next business meeting, with a suggested sequence of action. A project Manager will be assigned to each project for appraisal of costs and timing.
